You have probably heard about affiliate marketing before and you are interested to
know what it is exactly. That is probably because you’ve also heard that you can earn
money on the side while you continue working in your primary job.
That is actually true, provided that you are willing to put in the necessary work first to set
everything up before you can actually enjoy and reap the benefits.
In this article, I will go over some of the things you need to know so that you can start
earning money using affiliate marketing even while you sleep!
What is Affiliate Marketing?
For you to earn a lot of money using this medium, you must first know what it is. Affiliate
marketing is essentially a form of digital marketing wherein you create amazing content
in your chosen platform, entice your audience members to click on a special affiliate
link, and once they buy from that link, you will be given a percentage commission based
on the sale that was made.
That is basically what affiliate marketing is in a nutshell, but obviously, it can be more
complicated than that.
Now that you have an idea of what affiliate marketing is and you want to get in on the
action, here are the things that you need to do in order for you to get started:
1. Create Your Platform
As I’ve mentioned in the beginning, you need to have your own platform. Thanks to
modern technology, you can pretty much have a lot of freedom when it comes to this.
Ideally, you want either a website or a blog, but a Youtube Channel is also great as well
since more and more people are consuming video content now more than ever before.
You could also focus on social media, given the fact that social media influencers are on
the rise. But really, choose whichever you prefer.
2. Find Your Market
You need to find your own niche market so that you can focus all your attention on that.
Here are some tips:
- Focus on What You Like- You want to choose a market that you really love so
that you can create content that is filled with information that no other people can
- Is it Broad Enough? – You want to be able to create a lot of content pieces for
your chosen market. Otherwise, it will be hard for you to optimize your platform
using search engine optimization
- Don’t Choose an Oversaturated Market- Choose one that has relatively good
competition, but stay away from oversaturated ones
3. Create Quality Content
As an affiliate, you will search for an affiliate program that you like and then sign up to it.
Although most of the programs do not have eligibility requirements, there are some that
would require some level of notoriety in your niche.
That is why it is important that before heading out to find your ideal affiliate program,
create quality content right from the get-go. You do not have to create 100 types of
content before you can try affiliate marketing; a handful will do.
4. Build Your Email List
Ideally, you want to build your own email list on your website. That is because emails
are a great way for you to engage your audience, especially repeat visitors.
Now, if you do not know how email marketing works, you can just start by making a
pop-up window on your website where people can sign-up.
5. Promote Products
Let’s say that you want to start promoting your partner merchant’s products. The way
you do it is by creating content. Those affiliate links that they will give you should be
anchored on a text but you can also just paste it somewhere in your main content piece.
If you are going to make review articles, it would be best that you actually have
experience using the product yourself. This way, you can add your own personal touch
which is something people want in a review.
6. Track Your Results
How will you know that everything that you’ve done is working? Well, that is where
analytics come in.
Google Analytics will work but you can also use your own preferred analytics tools as
well. Basically, you want to focus on your content that gains a lot of traction and study
what makes it work. You also want to look at those poor-performing ones and see what
else could be improved so that you won’t commit the same mistakes in the future.
